Job Description:         

In this position you are responsible for offering professional friendly service to all guests in a restaurant setting whilst providing expert knowledge of the full food and beverage menu.  Follows the sequence of service to provide consistent and efficient service to all guests.
 
Position Requirements/Skills:       
 

  • Required to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays and may be required to work overtime
  • Work under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Report for work on time
  • Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the correct uniform/foot wear and name tag while working
  • Familiar with the floor plan and table numbers
  • Familiar with table setting layout
  • Assist other servers in the clearing/resetting/running of food as needed
  • Greets guests in a professional and friendly manner and build rapport by asking questions and initiating conversation
  • Knowledgeable in International and Okanagan wines
  • Knowledgeable in fine dining table service
  • Full knowledge of entire menu and preparations, including daily features/beverages
  • High knowledge of POS and payment system (Squirrel & Moneris)
  • Receive payment and provide change and receipt to guests
  • Accountable for cash float and balancing sales at the end of the day
  • Knowledge of SWP & SJP & WHMIS
  • Understanding of Duty of Care as it relates to the responsible service of Alcohol, valid Serving It Right
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Take guest orders, ring them through correctly, and expedite the orders from the kitchen in a presentable and timely manner according to the sequence of service
  • Offer suggestions by using suggestive selling techniques
  • Acknowledge all guests in a prompt manner
  • Ensure all chairs, floors, and work areas are clean and presentable at all times
  • Maintain excellent communication between all team members
  • Perform all side work duties as assigned
  • Work closely with Junior Server and Chefs to ensure quality service and plate presentation
  • Clear tables when guests have completed their meals or beverages as well as after leaving their tables
  • Respond to guests who are dissatisfied and notify a Manager as soon as possible if you cannot resolve the issue
  • Follow opening, closing and daily on-going procedures and checklist
 
Physical Demands:
 
  • Spend significant portion of shift standing and walking
  • Lift up to 23 kg/50lbs multiple times a day
  • Carry trays of beverages.  Carry 3 plates at once
  • Perform tableside service, cooking with flame (Kettle Valley Steakhouse)
