Big White has vacancies for the 2013/2014 season for Skating Rink Maintenance Personnel. The Skating Rink Maintenance Personnel are responsible for building and maintaining the outdoor skating rink to a high standard. Early morning, afternoon and split shifts are all possibilities.
 
Responsibilities 
 
  • Ensuring that the skating surface is properly maintained
  • Operation of the Zamboni and Bobcat
  • Clearing the rink of snow
  • Ensuring the safety of the rink and accesses
  • Maintain the walkway mats, signage and closures
  • Refuel and maintain the Zamboni and Bobcat
  • Maintain and repair the skate helpers, signs and benches
  • Stock, light and maintain the fire pit
  • Remove garbage and recycling
  • Summon first aid if required
  • Open and close sections of the rink as required
  • Communicate effectively with rink hosts regarding operations
  • Work cooperatively as a member of the rink team ensuring safe work practices are adhered to at all times
  • Comply with all department and company policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks, as assigned by a supervisor
  • Uphold the highest standard of internal and external customer service at all times
     
Qualifications:
  • Guest service experience an asset
  • Zamboni and Bobcat experience an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work in a cold outdoor environment
  • Proven self motivation, ability to work well with minimum supervision
  • Excellent guest service skills
  • Excellent organization, time management and communication skills
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail
  • Work well within a diverse team environment
  • Flexible availability: including evenings, early mornings, weekends and statutory holidays
 
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift
  • Ability to lift and carry 44 lbs/20 kg, or pull 110 lbs/50 kg at various times during the shift
  • Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill duties
  • Requires grasping, tool use, shoveling, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, listening & hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Driving equipment
  • Rolling and unrolling hoses

Position Duration:

Start early to mid November until mid to late March – the exact finishing date will be dependent on air temperature and ice conditions
